O, How Merciful is the Plan of Our God!

As a Latter-day Saint, I don’t believe humans are damned for things they were unable to learn or do while in this mortal fallen world because they lacked the opportunity to learn and do those things required for salvation. We are ultimately judged accountable for what we choose based on what we know; but I also believe God has a perfect plan to assure that ALL human beings will be given opportunity to come to know the gospel of Christ and to choose to accept his free gift of atonement and be saved.

LDS are baptized in proxy for those who have died because of our belief that baptism is necessary for a person to enter the kingdom of heaven; and we believe this proxy ordinance work will continue through the millennial reign of Christ, until Christ shall say the work is done. We believe that the spirits of men who have died are waiting in a spirit realm for the day of resurrection, and while in this state the Gospel is preached unto them. This is what we believe Christ was doing in the days between his crucifixion and resurrection; organizing his church among the dead to rescue those in spirit prison. 

Ultimately, I believe the thing that will astonish people the most after death is how merciful God is and that His plan is for ALL who have ever lived in this world.

At the heart of the Restoration is an American Doctrine that is a universal prop to the plan of God and the agency of man. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (known colloquially as Mormons) have quietly endured the pop culture slurs and the malignment of our religion in popular entertainment for decades. Probably because it has been a constant in our lives and the lives of our ancestors for many generations, and because we believe in following Christ who taught us to turn the other cheek and to be peacemakers. Generally I am little bothered by the passing jokes in media and the quirky ill informed caricatures in entertainment. My reaction is to Ignore the ignorant slights and focus on what matters most in my day to day life. From the most noted pop culture distortion of our religion, the Book of Mormon play on Broadway, to the many small jabs and jokes that disparage our religion throughout popular entertainment, I’ve never taken time to respond in any direct way.
