Preach my Gospel and Establish Zion

Latter-Day Saints are commanded to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ — what does that mean to us?

1) “To preach my gospel by the Spirit, even the Comforter which was sent forth to teach the truth.” — Doctrine and Covenants 50:14

2) Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

“I say unto you, keep my commandments, and seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion. Behold, I speak unto you, and also to all those who have desires to bring forth and establish this work; And no one can assist in this work except he shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care.” — D&C 12:6-8

Missionaries ask those interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints — and coming closer to Christ through knowledge of the doctrines of His restored church — to consider that the heavens are open, that Christ has revealed himself to the prophet Joseph Smith and initiated a restoration of His church in our day, that the Book of Mormon is an inspired translation that is a witness of the truth of the restoration and another witness of Christ with great power to draw true believers closer to Christ. We invite all to read the Book of Mormon with real intent and sincere desire to know if the Book is the word of God. We ask them to pray to know through the Holy Ghost the truth of these things.

For those who act upon these invitations, and who receive a personal witness of the truth of our claims and this book, are invited to be baptized by the power of the priesthood and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by one having authority. In this baptism they become members of the church of Jesus Christ and enter into a covenant relationship with Christ — a covenant path — that will invite them to partake in a fullness of this New and Everlasting Covenant; and endure to the end.

“Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great. Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days.” — D&C 64:33-34

The purpose of the church and the work we do, with Christ, is to establish Zion. A people gathered in through a sanctifying covenant relationship, to become a people prepared for the second coming of Christ. A people who are pure in heart, united in Christ, and knit together in love.

“And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.” — Moses 7:18

The American Doctrine of the Universal Restoration

At the heart of the Restoration is an American Doctrine that is a universal prop to the plan of God and the agency of man. The keystone of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this final dispensation is the Book of Mormon and the precepts of that book which will draw all to Christ if they embrace it's teachings and abide by it's precepts. Hulu Grossly Disparages the Sacred Beliefs of Latter-day Saint Women: Cashes In On Deceptive Salacious Portrait of “Mormon” Wives

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (known colloquially as Mormons) have quietly endured the pop culture slurs and the malignment of our religion in popular entertainment for decades. Probably because it has been a constant in our lives and the lives of our ancestors for many generations, and because we believe in following Christ who taught us to turn the other cheek and to be peacemakers. Generally I am little bothered by the passing jokes in media and the quirky ill informed caricatures in entertainment. My reaction is to Ignore the ignorant slights and focus on what matters most in my day to day life. From the most noted pop culture distortion of our religion, the Book of Mormon play on Broadway, to the many small jabs and jokes that disparage our religion throughout popular entertainment, I’ve never taken time to respond in any direct way.
