The Source of Testimony

The final and most important foundation of my faith in Christ and in my belief that The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church, the restored Church of Christ on Earth — Is the power that has come into my life through the truths taught, the ordinances provided, and enabling covenants extended through the priesthood power and authority of Christ’s chosen representatives on Earth.

These principles and powers have transformed me and supported my life — becoming my strength and guide to faithfully do my duty to God, my family, and all men.

My testimony results first from the witness inside my heart and mind — comes into action in my relations with my family members, and then outward from that.

Of course I have seen great fruits of the gospel in other Latter-Day Saints and in their lives and I have been strengthened by many faithful followers of Christ throughout my life. — BUT I am careful not to base my convictions upon what others do and works that I can only see from the outside — I would faithfully believe even if these people whom I have respected, leaned on, and learned from lost their belief or failed to act in faith.

Testimony (witness) is no simple warmth in the heart, or burning in the bosom — it’s a complete change over time. The everyday miracle of feeling the power of Christ enabling me to become more like him, to maintain myself in good works through his grace. The steady presence of the Holy Spirit that gives me peace like a river, a sure hope, and an eternal perspective. The gift of Charity that comes as I increase my communion with the Lord through obedience to the ordinances and covenants of the gospel. — These are the source of my testimony and conversion.

The best way to communicate what I’m talking about — because words are inadequate to describe it — is to read Moroni 7, in the Book of Mormon. The miracle he identifies as the greatest miracle, is the miracle that changes us to become like Christ. There is no greater miracle than that.
