In a discussion of the commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery," we must understand God's desire for us to marry and have children. The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth was the first commandment God gave to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and the command to marry and have children are the only commandments that take two, a man and a women, to keep. This makes these commandments truly holy. The scriptures teach us not to delay marriage and family life, but rather to view it as the central purpose of our lives. Marriage in our youth is a critical way to avoid fornication, thus being obedient to the 7th commandment.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. — Proverbs 5:18
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
“She worketh willingly with her hands. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
— Proverbs 31:10-31
“Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of thy life.” — Ecclesiastes 9:9
“I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.” — 1 Timothy 5:13
“Teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient…”
“Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned… having no evil thing to say of you.”
— Titus 2:4-8
